City in Development

photographic work | 2022

The work attempts to narrate a story of the constructed environment within the city of Amsterdam. In our capitalistic world is a constant need for something new, which causes buildings to fall and rise, and neighborhoods to change rapidly. In an attempt to visualize this urban change, the work connects different perspectives of a variety of people, with an aim to initiate a conversation about gentrification.

Six people living in Amsterdam are asked what their view is on their rapidly changing neighborhood. Sam, Guido & Rianne just finished university and moved into a newly built apartment. Ronaldo, Clien, and Dick, who all have lived in their house for more than 25 years, have seen their area change drastically over time.
