City in Development

photographic work | 2022

The work is an attempt to narrate a story of the constructed environment that we are living in. Western idealism is causing a constant need for something new, and for buildings to fall and rise. To depict this capitalistic construct, the work shows urban change in the life of a variety of different individuals. The work connects different perspectives of a variety of people, with an aim to initiate a conversation about urban changes.

6 people living in Amsterdam, a city subject to gentrification, are asked what their view is on their rapidly changing neighbourhood. Sam, Guido & Rianne just finished university, and moved into a newly built apartment. Ronaldo, Clien and Dick, who all have lived in their house for more than 25 years, have seen their area change overtime.
