2019A short portrait series I made in 2019, while I was asking myself the questions:
- What do your days look like when we can not take care of ourselves anymore?
- Where do we spent our last days?
Marie Claire lived in her apartment on the Overtoom all her life together with her son. The moment of his passing was when she moved into the care house Vondelstede on the other side of the street. At the moment I visited her, she was mostly spending her time in the canteen or in the garden, as she liked to get out of her small room. For social contact, she was mostly reliant on volunteers, who would visit and take her out for a walk.
The feeling of loneliness could not escape me during the few hours that I spent in the Vondelstede.
